Kicking it in Edinburgh

Today was a travel day, full of buses, shuttles, airplanes, one not-so-helpful airline employee, a very heavy suitcase, and a very helpful concierge.

Christine and I made it to Edinburgh (as the title may lead you to understand).  We are now resting in our lovely hotel, somewhat off the beaten path, watching an American movie.  Tonight at dinner we heard Brown Eyed Girl, too.

But I'm getting ahead of myself a little bit.

We left Dublin behind via bus to bus to airport.  Though checking in was a little difficult (the weight limit on the luggage was a little lower than we're used to), we made it through security without any major problems.

We also had time for a lovely lunch (including our last taste of Bulmer's cider) and some reading, which was good considering the flight took all of 45 minutes.  We also had an empty seat between us.  Oh the joy!

Then we were in Edinburgh.  After a taxi ride, we arrived at our hotel.  It's tucked away among row houses about 30 minutes (walking time) from the Royal Mile (the main place to visit in Edinburgh).

After settling in, we set off for the city.  We didn't make it the castle before it closed and there's some weird stadium seating structure being set up, but we wandered around the Royal Mile.  It's an amazing collection of really old buildings (with the occasional Travelodge thrown in).  Hopefully, in a few days I'll be able to tell you more about it.

We also had a lovely dinner before wandering back to the hotel.  I tried a beer that was fermented in whiskey.  It was tasty, and I don't often say that about beer.

The weather today, as you can probably tell from the pictures, was gorgeous.  It was like a real summer day.  In fact, it was warm enough that we got sweaty.  It was amazing.  I'll be back with more details later, when I actually know something and when my eyes are trying to shut as I type.

Sorry for the lack of pictures this time.  I know all the words are boring.  The internet connection isn't conducive to uploading.  I couldn't even get one to work.  Maybe I'll have time to add them in the morning.

Don't bet on it though.  Good night from Edinburgh.
