Recovering from this week

This week, you guys. It was a doozie.

As my first official week as a digital producer for a television station, I got way more than I bargained for. Welcome to the news, I guess.

Luckily, this weekend has been exactly what the doctor ordered to recover.

My sister came down for a visit. Last night after work, we joined some of my closest friends in Seattle for a belated new job celebration.

Saturday my sister and I enjoyed a lazy morning, a nice walk (before the rain), pho for lunch, mini cupcakes, some movie watching, and had Indian for dinner with my aunt and uncle.

I couldn't ask for anything better. Seriously.

Today I'm going try to on bridesmaid dresses for a good friend's wedding this summer.

I think I'll be ready for Monday.

Even if my thoughts are still with Boston and West, Texas.

What do you do to recover from a hard week?

And so I ran

I don't have many words for what happened in Boston today. It was horrifying, mind numbing, unfathomable.

But the one thing I knew as I walked out of the doors after more than a few exhausting hours at work...I was going to run.

In some ways, it felt like the only thing I could do.

So far removed from a tragedy, it's easy to feel helpless.

While running wasn't necessarily contributing to anything greater, it made me feel a tiny bit closer to everyone who's lives were inexplicably altered this afternoon.

And it offered a release and time to just unplug.

My thoughts and prayers are with Boston tonight.

Breaking the silence for big, big news

Hi friends. I did not plan to take such a long blog break. One day seemed to just roll into the next and then suddenly a week passed. Plus, I got some big news, but had to wait for it to be official before I could share.

On that note, I'm happy to say that I am gainfully employee and feeling grown up. I'll officially got a job offer last Monday to be an Online News Producer at the local TV station where I've been working as a temporary employee.

Woohoo!

I beat out applicants from around the country and am super excited to continue working at KING 5. I consider myself pretty lucky to have had a three-month on-the-job interview. My coworkers are awesome and I'm also really glad to be done job hunting.

I celebrated last week by going to get a manicure and pedicure with a friend. And then we went to the amazing Hot Cakes for dinner. A molten cake, cookie, and boozy milkshake...indulgent but definitely celebratory.

It's hard to believe all the opportunities I have had in the past year and a half through grad school. I'm excited and feeling more than a little blessed.

What have I missed in your life in the past week or so?

Easter weekend and other meandering thoughts

Happy almost Wednesday everyone!

I keep meaning to post, but since I spend my entire day staring at screens (at least three of them), opening my laptop is often the last thing I want to do at the end of the day.

But I want to blog, so it's quite the conundrum. Sometimes, like tonight, I just push through to make it happen.

So tonight's post is brought to you by bleary eyes and extra slow internet that is making my life a pain.

You know this is going to be something special. (Or not.)

I went up to my parents' house this past weekend. Again. Last week I mostly went to watch basketball. This week I went to watch basketball and because it was Easter.

And the weekend was pretty much perfect.

First of all, we got our first few really nice, warm spring days. It almost got up to 70 on Sunday. My sister and I celebrated by taking the puppy (who is know 100 pounds and a year old) on a run.

We spent a good chunk of time outside. We went to brunch for Easter. I got a ton of cuddles in on the couch with the dogs.

And we watched basketball, because that's what we do in my family. (Let's just not talk about the Louisville player who broke his leg. Gruesome.)

My sister and I also visited an awesome little beer/wine store that has 12 beers on taps, lots of fun varieties, and free tastings.

Like I said, the weekend was pretty much perfect.

Yesterday, I got to start my Monday a little later than normal. Hooray for getting to sleep in a bit, especially since I did not get enough sleep this weekend.

Then last night, I went to see my great aunt's choir perform. Not only was the music lovely, but there were cookies and sparkling cider afterwards.

How was your weekend? Did you do anything fun?
